Things had happened too fast for him to have a moment to stop and call people. They were coming for Jake and he couldn't lose him. He found a hotel room as soon as he could find one, using cash. He just turned him and his son into fugitives. As much as he missed Sam he wasn't sure it was fair to ask her to come to him and Jake, but she also deserved to know he was alright and was sorry he left. So he called her from a burner he bought.

Sam had spent part of the day helping Martin and Jake because she didn't want him taken away any more than Martin did. They were separated most of the day but she was supposed to meet him at his place that evening. The problem was that he never showed up. After two hours, she called his cell phone but could hearing ringing from the bedroom. It looked like things were missing but she wasn't sure. She stayed that night just in case he'd show up but he never did.

Two days after he'd disappeared, she finally went back to her place knowing if he took off with Jake and didn't want to be found, there was nothing she could do. She was home that night when her phone rang, a number she didn't recognize and only hoped it was Martin.

"Hello?"
