Things had happened too fast for him to have a moment to stop and call people. They were coming for Jake and he couldn't lose him. He found a hotel room as soon as he could find one, using cash. He just turned him and his son into fugitives. As much as he missed Sam he wasn't sure it was fair to ask her to come to him and Jake, but she also deserved to know he was alright and was sorry he left. So he called her from a burner he bought.

"It's okay. I know you have to do whatever you have to do to keep Jake safe. I never thought leaving would be one of them."

She took a deep breath, trying hard to keep it together. He was upset enough and she didn't need to make it worse.

"Me either honestly. I was never going to get him back."

All the stuff they put him through, it had all been lies. He sighed sounding broken for so many reasons it felt like.

"How have you been holding up?"

[sammmy]

"They shouldn't be allowed to take him away."

So what if he was different. He was a child and shouldn't be used as an experiment. While she was upset about him leaving, she could tell just how upset he was and just wanted to be there in his arms.

"Not good. I was too worried about you."

"Is it selfish of me to want you here with us?"

He asked out of the blue, he couldn't help it. He missed her.

"No, it's not selfish. I wish I was there with you both."

She didn't like the thought of being without him.

"I miss you."

"I miss you too. I love you."

He bit his lip wanting so bad to tell her to come to him.

"I love you, too."

He could probably tell she was on the verge of tears, not any happier about anything than he was.

"What's gonna happen to us?"

"I don't know Sam. I'm so torn right now. I want you here so badly, but I don't know if you deserve to always be on the run. I leave those choices to you."

He chewed his lip slowly looking over at a sleeping Jake.

"But you never gave me a choice. You left."

She hated the thought of going on without him.

"I would have went with you."

"I didn't have time to even stop and breathe. I want you Sam that hasn't changed."

He sent her a text telling her where he was, which wasn't far. He couldn't go that far without talking to her first. It was her choice from there whether she packed up and came to him or stayed and waited for the possibility of someday.

"I'll be moving out tomorrow."

"I know you didn't. I just don't like the thought of maybe never seeing you again."

She glanced at the text when it came through, surprised he wasn't farther away than he was. She'd already made up her mind the second she saw the address, she just didn't share it with him yet.

"I'll have a decision before then."

"Alright Sam. I'll have a keycard waiting if you decide to come. I should try and sleep a little."

Though he really didn't want to let her go, worried it was the last time in a who knew how long he'd talk to her again.

She would have kept him on the phone longer but if he was leaving the next day, he needed to get his sleep.

"Alright. I love you."

After she hung up the phone, she started packing and filled two gym bags and a backpack with her things, getting as much cash as she could. She made arrangements with someone she could trust to get to where she needed to be and several hours later, she was softly knocking on Martin's door.

Martin came to the door groggily and opened the door in just a pair of sweatpants. It took him a few moments before it registered.

"Sam?"

She had a feeling he wasn't expecting her at all and she knew it was late but she didn't want to just sneak on inside with him asleep. She smiled when he opened the door.

"You said it was up to me and I didn't wanna wait until morning."

He smiled and took her hand pulling her into his room gently. He leaned in and kissed her gently.

"Missed you so much. You have no idea how happy I am to see you."

She dropped her things inside the door and returned that kiss, wrapping her arms around him.

"I missed you, too. Didn't want to spend another night without you."

"I'm a very lucky man you wanted to come with me into this mess.

He brushed his lips over hers again lovingly.

She deepened that kiss before pulling back and smiling up at him, her hand brushing across his cheek.

"I knew what I was getting into when we got together. You never tried to hide anything. I wanna be here with you, both of you."

He took her hand leading her to the bed with a tired but happy smile.

"Jake will be happy to see you."

She pushed her hair behind her ears before he led her to the bed and she slipped out of her shoes. She was tired now and more than ready to get into bed.

"Did he miss me?"

"Did you want to grab a shower before bed?"

Martin smiled at her and nodded and went and got something Jake had drawn, the three of them.

"He did."

"Yeah, a shower sounds good."

She took the piece of paper and looked at it, smiling whens he realized who it was.

"He drew the three of us? I love it."

"Here let me show you to the bathroom.

He took her hand leading her to the bathroom. Really he just wanted to be close to her.

She handed him the drawing back and followed him to the bathroom.

"You wanna shower with me?"
